Long lasting beauty...

Yes, I love those French Madelaines… for tea-time, and lately even for breakfast. Love the way the bakery presents them in clear folded plastic bags, at the bottom a neat looking rectangular piece of white card board. Simply sumptious…
Thinking of baking my own and how to present them - even if only for our own household - I take a close look at the packaging. Hhm… this neat little plastic bag now needs some cleaning! I fill it with water, add detergent, wash and dry it… And here it is… a perfectly beautiful reusable PET clear plastic bag, ready to be used again and again. It can’t disintegrate and turn into soil ( because it is not bio-degradable),
so I may as well use it to the end of my days.
There may be nicer ways to present my own backed goods. Like stacking them on
a porcelain dish, covered in a fresh towel. But what with the pretty PET bag? After
all, I have purchased it, and it now is in my possession. I may as well use it, and in
due time pass it on to my grand children.
PET does not leak particles. Good! But what about the pretty piece of card board at the bottom of the bag? Once wetted it tore to pieces in the process of removing it. What remains is a white film. It kind of looks good, but what is it made of? It is kind of close to the Madelaines we love, there at the bottom of the bag. Would not want it
to leak toxins!
A day later...

My very own baked goods are ready to go for breakfast and for tea time.
To my surprise I must admit, presenting it on the table in this bag is effective. The bag saves space. It looks good. As if made of thin flexible glass... gorgeous! Can't think of anything that would equal it. If only it was bio-degradable...!...!...!
The recipe... 2/3 buckwheat flower, 1/3 chestnut flower, 1 egg, 1 teaspoon baking powder, enough water to do a smooth batter kind of firm. Add a handful of herbs like rosemary, sage, thyme (but can also be coriander, parsley and chives...). Add a handful (or two) of raisins. Mix into the batter.
Last add 4-5 spoons of lemon or vinegar to activate the baking powder. Spread on a sheet of baking paper. Bake at 180 degree for 20 minutes.
Cool and cut up.
